Behold the power of the bagel
We have been told all our lives that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that remains true even in quarantine. But with limited shopping trips and store chaos you need something simple that you can keep in stock for days and weeks. Allow me to introduce you to The Bagel.
The Bagel can be bought in large quantities and store in the fridge or freezer for future consumption. The Bagel shares may characteristics with is cousin, The Doughnut. But while doughnuts are loaded with sugar and fat, The Bagel is (comparatively) healthy. In fact, some kinds of bagels are even whole-grain.
The number one reason I skip breakfast in the morning is lack of time, and that is still true in a pandemic. In rushing about to take a shower, do my hair and makeup, generally wake up, and get to that perfect working zone breakfast is bumped farther and farther down the list of things that need to get done until it falls off all together. I am just too busy to designate 10 or 20 minutes to solely feeding my body. The Bagel, however, requires no prep time or even forethought of any kind. I have, on more than one occasion, stuffed a bagel in my mouth on the way out the door, and eaten it on route to my morning class. You cannot take your cereal or fried eggs out the door with such convenience. The Bagel is the only way to both walk the walk and eat the eats. If you are working from home, you can grab a plate and take the bagel to your work area without worrying about silverware or any extra pieces.
Most breakfast foods get tedious, eating the same thing every day. By the time you have finished that value pack of cereal you got on sale (that was partially stale), you never want to see that cereal again (not to mention you probably ran out of milk days ago). Bagels are not bound by the same limitations as normal food. Not only are there endless types of bagels, but you can also add-to and spice-up a bagel an infinite number of ways. May I suggest cream cheese, peanut butter, honey, jelly or jam, Nutella, frosting, lunch meat, avocado, bacon, eggs, or any combination you can think of. The Bagel is flexible, ready to adapt to whatever the contents of your pantry are, no matter how bare your cupboards might seem (Notice: These are only suggestions if you should tire of the bare bagel. There is nothing wrong (and a lot right) with eating The Bagel by itself without any supporting actors).
So, the next time your stomach makes you mute zoom from its rumbling and grumbling, turn to the trusty bagel. And once the world calms down, bagels will still be there for when you commute to work again.
