Surprise storm knocks out CSC power
An unexpected afternoon thunderstorm coming from the east hit Chadron at 4:10 p.m. Monday, causing the CSC campus to lose power. The storm trapped students in the elevators located in High Rise.
They were freed 10 minutes later. Carlee Brownawell, 18, Freshman of Hershey, was one of the students that got trapped.
“I knew it was raining and blowing but not enough for the power to get shut off,” Brownawll, 18, freshman of Hersey said. “It’s a good thing I’m not claustraphobic.”
The storm, packing winds of 40 mph, knocked over a tree on campus and killed power in Walmart and the southwest corner of Chadron.
As quickly as the storm came it disappeared. By 5:45 p.m., power had been restored.
