Meet two of your new Student Senators
Kelsey Crock, 20, is a junior from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Why did you decide to run?- “I’ve always had the mindset that if you’re wanting change to happen within a school you have to be part of the change. Student Senate is a good place to start to make the change because they have a big voice in what happens on campus.”
What are your platforms?– “”Just anything that will help the lives of students, make it a little easier just going through things. I’m a PSAS representative, so (I’m involved in) anything with the Pac or the HYPER department, or FCS, so anything that can really help those students have more opportunities for things.”
“I think a get to know the professors a little bit (would be good) because I think sometimes it’s hard for people to really just get to know their professors, because they think (of them) just in the classroom setting. But I think it’s helpful when you know them more on a personal level, make them get to know you, it’s always just better for anybody.”
In five years, where do you see yourself?– “Hopefully teaching at an elementary P.E classroom in Wyoming, I want to go back home. And also coaching high school volleyball and basketball hopefully.”
What are your goals for your stint as a senator?– “To get to know as many students within the departments as I can would be one of my goals. I’m a people person. I know a bunch in the HYPER department but (with) rangeland and FSC, trying to reach out to those different areas and get to know those students also.”
What is your message for students?– “Make sure to voice your opinion if you’re wanting change, we can’t change anything unless we know about it and if you want to see a change, try to be the one making the change and assisting at least in making the change.”
Brandy Fredrickson, 19, is a sophomore from Centura.
Why did you decide to run?– “I really wanted to run for Student Senate because I wanted to leave a lasting impact on the campus and overall just make it a better place than what it was when I came here, even though it was already great.”
What are your platforms?– “There are a couple that come to mind, the one I really want to do is involving the community within our campus, and that also goes hand-to-hand with my job at the chamber of commerce. So that is something that I feel that I can do adequately.”
In five years, where do you see yourself? “I see myself obviously graduated, I’m going to be a teacher. I see myself either in Wyoming or Texas.”
What are your goals for your stint as a senator?– “My specific goal for now is just to get more involved. I feel as if this is a key way to get more involved. And for the senate, as well as the community, (I want to be) that person that can relay information from side to side, it’s going to be really helpful for not only the campus, but the community. Even going back to the senate, I am in the AFB, but on top of that, on the chamber side, I’m required to help with the foundation, which gets the money for the college. So I just have a hand in everything. My biggest goal is to do what’s right.”
What message do you have for students?– “My biggest thing right now would be to just do your part. I want to stay here, and I know there’s a lot of people that want to stay here. The biggest thing you could do is to do your part and be respectful, be responsible with what you do. It does come back, throughout your life and especially your time here.”
