Senate blazes forward with fire pit plans

Student Senate’s Monday meeting began with continued discussion by President Lily Umeta about her continued work towards construction of a new fire pit on campus.

Plans for location and design of the pit were discussed earlier in the day with an architect. Once a couple plans are completed and shown to the Senate, she intends to “Take it to the students” for feedback.

“It’s moving fast and also slow at the same time,” Umeta said. “It’s probably because I’m excited.”

With the presidential election less than one month away, Student Trustee Konery Klueber presented an idea to set up a voter registration table this coming Monday in front of the Student Center after talking with a woman from California about student-led voting initiatives. After deciding to allocate $30 for incentive candy giveaways, Student Senate approved the plan.

Umeta concluded the meeting by urging senators to, “go out and talk to people – one thing you would want to see changed or improved on campus.”
