Senate welcomes new faculty adviser

Justin Curtis is Student Senate’s newest faculty advisor, and the social sciences professor is excited about the opportunity to advise senators in their goals for campus. Curtis was approved by CSC Student Senate on Sept. 22.
“The student senate is a group of students trying to improve CSC, and when they leave CSC, they’re going to be a group of people trying to improve their communities, and their nation, and their world,” Curtis said.
Curtis believes students should become engaged in Student Senate because it cultivates democratic, engaged, and informed citizen values – which are important to the CSC essential studies program.
Looking back on his own undergraduate experience, Curtis said he wishes he had been more involved at the college than just his time spent with Model United Nations.
“I wish I had understood the value of being involved in a campus community and working to make the campus a better place,” Curtis said. “I think it translates easily to the rest of your life.”
Curtis earned his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Utah and his master’s and Ph.D from the University of Arizona – all his degrees are in political science.
This is his first semester at CSC after teaching part-time at the University of Arizona while getting his Ph.D.
