Meet your senator: Olivia Bryant

Olivia Bryant, 19, sophomore of Anselmo is the new liberal arts senator.

Why did you decide to run?

“I decided to run because I think that it is important to step up and become a leader. I believe that you have to put yourself out there and make yourself uncomfortable in order to reach your true potential. Applying for the Liberal Arts Senator position made sense for me because I have always had an interest in the political process because of my mom’s work in county government. I am also a Legal Studies minor and wanted to gain real world experience while in college so being a part of Student Senate was an obvious decision for me.”

What are your platforms?

“I am a member on the Student Alumni Council and marketing assistant for The Big Event. I feel that being involved in these activities creates my platform because I interact with a wide variety of people ranging from students to community members to alumni. I want to use these involvements to unify clubs and organizations across campus”

In five years, where do you see yourself?

“In five years, I see myself graduating with my masters and living somewhere along the east coast. I believe that I will end up working in government in some capacity because that is where I feel most comfortable.”

What are your goals as a senator?

“One of my goals as senator is to inform the student body about the role of Student Senate on campus and what Senate can do for students. I didn’t know about all the roles Senate plays on campus until just recently so I want to educate others.

Another goal that I want to focus on is having regular interactions with my constituents so that I can best meet their needs. I want to make CSC an even better campus to be at then when I first walked on to it my sophomore year of high school. Everyone deserves the chance to have an amazing college experience and I want to make this possible for all student.”

What message do you have for students?

“My message to students would be:

to email your Senator within your respective department. Empower yourself to stand up and speak out for the issues that you believe in. We want to hear from you because Senate is here to serve the student body.”
