Mid-term break allows time to recoup
With difficulties in figuring out what CSC was wanting to do for the fall semester, COVID-19 was an ever-present factor. To keep traveling to a minimum, allowing the virus less of a possibility to spread, the fall term was shifted and squeezed to fit in between Aug. 17 and Nov. 25.
With this shift in the schedule, classes started a week early and are aimed to end the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, as many people are aware of.
In order to make this work without removing too much time from the semester, it was also decided that the mid-term break would be removed from the fall semester.
Upon learning about this change over the summer, I was a little worried with the decision to remove mid-term break, because I knew how much I needed that time to recollect myself to be able to finish the other half of the semester strong.
Only, I didn’t know exactly how much it helped me, especially with an 18-credit hour semester.
Each day, I feel like there is another mystery assignment due in a day or two, one that I hadn’t set enough time for, or even just one that I forgot about until an hour before it’s due. This week, I’ve had to write, present and read enough to make me think that it’s too difficult to continue using English.
In order to keep the mess of my life under control, I use to-do lists and a planner. This allows me to make sure I’m getting all of my assignments done with my overloaded semester. I keep my schedule, and I always try to stick to it as best I can, especially when I have The Eagle responsibilities to include as well.
Giving yourself time to get work done is important but scheduling yourself downtime is important as well. If you get two of your four assignments are done, watch one episode of the Netflix show you are currently on. I do mean just one. Then you can watch another episode once the rest of your assignments are completed.
Contact friends and find a future time that would work for everyone to hang out. This can be at a house or dorm, going out for dinner, go to an athletic event or even just talking for a few hours. If you have something in your schedule to look forward to, it makes each day more exciting as the event approaches.
One way that I distress is I contact family in some matter. I face time my family to catch up with each one. I call my mom for an hour. I text my younger sister to ask how her middle school athletics are going.
This gets your mind off of the things you have to do and it gives you updates on life at home especially if you can’t visit.
Things may be a struggle right now; many people may be feeling it. Stress might seem to be taking over your life and hindering sleep schedules on top of homework that seems to never end.
Set up a countdown that helps you wake up in the morning and say, “I have five full weeks left. Let me just get through this one.” Don’t be afraid to reach out to friends, family, or even faculty if you need to talk or even rant. (Email a letter to the editor if you’d like). But believe me, I trust that both you and I can get through this semester because we’ve made it this far.
