Nebraska hosts virtual SRM conference
The Nebraska Society for Range Management (NESRM) will be hosting its annual conference online Nov. 5 and 6.
The conference which is themed “New Technologies for Managing Rangelands” is occurring in Lincoln, but audiences will be participating virtually.
The first day will begin with a business meeting followed by an award ceremony. Awards that are being given include The Rangeman’s Award, Range Management Service Award and Outstanding Young Range Professional Award. These awards are given out by the Nebraska Section of the Society of Range Management.
Nebraska section members are also eligible to receive Society for Range Management (SRM) awards. SRM awards are the Frederic G. Renner Award, W.R. Chapline Land Steward Award, W.R. Chapline Research Award, Sustained Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Achievement Award, Outstanding Young Range Professional Award and the Fellow Award. Nominations for SRM awards will be announced at NESRM.
After a lunch break there will be two speakers. The first, will be Dirac Twidwell who is speaking on monitoring vegetation cover on rangelands. Twidwell will be followed by Travis Mulliniks and his presentation on monitoring animal performance on rangelands.
The second day will begin with undergraduate and graduate students’ presentations followed by a lunch break. Mitchell Stephenson is speaking after the break, on tools for monitoring grazing behavior and distribution on rangelands. The conference will end with a presentation on precision conservation on working landscapes by Andrew Little.
Speakers for both days begin presentations at 1 p.m. and have an hour to present their speech.
In past years of the NESRM conference all attendees paid a registration fee, however, due to COVID-19 the conference has moved online and is free to all attendees.
The National SRM meeting will also be virtual, it begins Feb. 15-18 2021. The meeting is being called New Frontiers. The SRM committee hopes that the annual meeting will be in-person in 2022 in Albuquerque.
