CSC student receives BHECN’s new Champion award

On Oct. 16, the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska (BHECN) announced the 2020 award recipients for individuals who excel in the behavioral health field in the state of Nebraska. Among them was CSC student Chelsea Turner, 30, graduate student of Chadron.

Turner was given the Champion award, which was created this year, after a person anonymously nominated her for her work as a service coordinator at WCHR. There, she provides behavioral health case coordination for clients, in both youth and adult programs, who struggle with behavioral health issues. She is also a member of the crisis response team, which provides interventions for anyone experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

“It is unbelievable,” Turner said. “I feel so honored and humbled to be recognized in this capacity. There are thousands of mental health professionals throughout Nebraska and I just feel so blessed to be among my colleagues out there.”

Turner said that, when she received the news, she cried from the overwhelming gratitude she felt.

“This award just pushes me to work harder and provide more for my clients,” Turner said. “It gives me that push and motivation to keep making waves in the mental health field for those who are struggling with their mental wellness.”
