Eagles dig up a win against BHSU
Chadron State went 1-1 for its matches against Black Hills State University, Saturday. The Eagles won their first match in five sets against the Yellow Jackets, but fell to them in their second match, also playing five sets.
In their first game, the Eagles won the first and fourth sets and won the match in the fifth, 19-17.
“I thought as a team, we fought really well last weekend,” Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Stadler said in a message to the Eagle. “We continued to battle through highs and lows on our side.
Karli Noble, senior of Cheyenne, Wyoming, attack-received 27 times, leading the Eagles in digs for the first game.
Lexi Hurtado, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado, and Rylee Greiman, sophomore of Windsor, Colorado, attacked 40 times in their first match.
Hurtado killed eight of her attacks, assisted with blocks twice, served three aces, and dug 24 attacks. Greiman earned 13 kills, and 13 digs while contributing three sets to the team.
Kincaid Strain, junior of Elk River, Minnesota, set 26 times, while contributing three kills, an assisted block and 12 digs. Breshawna Kelly, junior of Casper, Wyoming, contributed 16 sets and five digs.
“It was nice to have Kincaid back this weekend,” Stadler said. “She did a nice job distributing the ball and always brings positivity and energy on the court.”
Rhiannon Nez, freshman of Rapid City, South Dakota, block-assisted five times. Nez received one attack and killed 10 times.
Micaiah Vrbka, sophomore of Brainard, assisted with four block and earned five kills. Chandler Hageman, junior of Chadron, earned nine kills, with four digs and assisting three blocks.
The second match went back and forth for set wins, CSC winning the second and fourth set, falling short to BHSU in the fifth, 15-11.
Hageman earned eight points from kills, served two aces, and blocked three attacks, one of which was solo.
Kelly dug up 12 attacks and set 18 times for her teammates. Strain was close behind Kelly with 11 sets. Strain earned two kills and kept eight attacks in play with digs.
Nez led the second game with six assisting blocks and a solo block. Nez dug three attacks and earned six points in kills.
Noble dug 24 attacks. Greiman dug four attack, served three aces, assisted with a block, and earned three kills.
Berg attacked 31 times, seven of which ended as kills. Berg assisted with three blocks, served three aces, and dug seven attacks.
