Men’s track sprints for first place

The Eagles men sprint for high placements, balancing out their team with continuous success in throwing and jumping events. 

Instead of hosting another track meet in the NPAC, the Eagles traveled to Spearfish and competed against Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines. 

Morgan Fawver, sophomore of McCook, finished first in two of his races, 60 meters with a time of 6.82 seconds and 200 meters timed at 22.42 seconds. 

Finishing right behind Fawver, Emory Yoosook, freshman of Casper, Wyoming placed second in the 60 meters, timed for 7.15 seconds; and finished third in the 200 meters, marked at 23.29 seconds. Yoosook jumped 21 feet, 6.25 inches in the long jump, earning himself first.

“Emory has gotten better every week,” Head Track and Field Coach Riley Northrup said. “He has progressed nicely, so it’s not surprising to see him continually improving his times and distances.” 

Filling second place in the 200 meters, Osvaldo Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh, ran the race in 22.94 seconds. Osvaldo Cano ran the 400 meters in 50.17 seconds, placing first.

Also, in the 400 meters, Greg Logsdon, freshman of Torrington, Wyoming, took second timed for 52.22 seconds; Osiel Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh placed third, marked at 52.37 seconds; and Harley Rhoades, junior of Douglas, Wyoming placed fourth, with a time of 52.69 seconds.

Logan Peila, freshman of Miles City, Montana, ran 8.9 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second. Pete Brown, sophomore of Oxford, finished third in the 60-meter hurdles, marked at 8.97 seconds. Brown jumped 17 feet, 10.75 inches to place sixth in the long jump. 

Parker Gonser, freshman of Windsor, Colorado, finished second in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 10 inches. An inch behind at 46 feet, 9 inches, Reid Spady, freshman of Oshkosh, finished third in the shot put. 

Dan Reynolds, freshman of Granby, Colorado, threw the shot put 43 feet, 10.75 inches, placing him fifth. Reynolds took third in the weight throw with a toss of 52 feet, 4.5 inches. 

For the jumps, Brock Voth, junior of Berthoud, Colorado, jumped 43 feet, 2.25 inches in the triple jump, finishing second. 

Alec Penfield, sophomore of Lusk, Wyoming, jumped over the competition in the high jump, placing first at 6 feet, 4 inches. Joe Dumsa, junior of Sandy, Utah, placed second in the high jump by also clearing 6 feet, 4 inches.

“Most times our sprinters and jumpers will be entered into meets based on the schedule of events for that meet,” Northrup said. “As long as the schedule doesn’t overlap, I’ll try to have our jumpers sprint that day.”

In a variety of events, Julianne Thomsen, junior of Custer, South Dakota, finished her events in a variety of places. Thomsen took second in 200 meters timed for 27.49 seconds and 60-meter hurdles with a 9.55-seconds run. Thomsen finished fourth in the long jump, leaping 14 feet, 9.75 inches, and fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 7 inches. 

Michaela Hill, sophomore of Eaton, Colorado, ran 27.53 seconds in the 200 meters, finishing third; and finished fourth in the 400 meters, timed at 1:03.95. 

Hannah Christie, freshman of Alpine, Wyoming, jumped to second in long jump marked at 15 feet, 11.5 inches. Christie placed third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 1 inch. 

Miranda Gilkey, junior of Lusk, Wyoming, jumped 34 feet, 9 inches, taking second in the triple jump, and cleared the bar at 5 feet, 1 inch, placing second in high jump. 

Jourdaine Cerenil, freshman of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, jumped over the high jump bar at 5 feet, 3 inches, earning her first. Cerenil finished fifth with a jump of 31 feet, 8 inches in the triple jump.
