Virtual event open to students

On March 1 and 2, 25 CSC students will have the opportunity to meet with professionals in their field of study for an online virtual event courtesy of funding by the CSC Student Senate.

The event is titled Meet the Pros and is ordinarily held in-person in Omaha. COVID-19 pushed the event to a virtual format.

According to CSC Associate Professor of Communications, Shaunda French-Collins, the event’s online format is more inviting since attendees won’t be traveling to Omaha.

“We don’t have to worry about weather this year,” Collins said chuckling. “One year we had to cancel due to weather. One year we had to stay an extra night due to weather.”

She also mentioned the typical cost of the in-person event would be double this year’s virtual format, and the cost of travel and lodging is eliminated.

Collins says students will still be exposed to key aspects of the event in the virtual format.

“They’re still getting the great networking and professional information, just by our computers this year,” Collins said.

According to Collins, past attendees have taken advantage of people and companies they are introduced to at the event.

“I’ve known people to get in touch with companies post conference and apply for either internships or jobs there.”

Students attending the event are typically marketing, art/graphic design, communication and advertising students. This year, other students can reach out to Collins if they’re interested in attending.

“We were allocated for 25 students” Collins said.
