CSC beef stewardship class open to public

CSC is hosting a free public, beef based, class beginning on March 22.

North Dakota State University’s Extension Veterinarian Gerald Stokka will be teaching Introduction to a Stewardship Systems Approach to Beef Cattle Health and Well-being for the second eight weeks of this semester.

“The most important two words are in the title stewardship and systems.” Said Ron Bolze, “We often see a traditional approach to beef cattle production and its time for us to start thinking about changing.”

Stokka has worked for Pfizer Animal health Veterinary Technical Services team and as the beef extension veterinarian for Kansas State University. He also served as a past president of the Academy of Veterinary Consultants.

The class is a Topics in Agriculture class which is chosen by Rangeland Management Professors; Teresa Frink, Anthony Perlinski, Dustin Luper and Ron Bolze. Each teacher and topic is selected in order to give students a chance to learn about an important agricultural topic not offered at CSC.

Funding for Topics in Agriculture classes comes from the Bill and Virgina Coffee Family Foundation Grant.

The class can be taken for one college credit or attendee’s can attend for no credit or cost. The class will be held in the Rangeland Complex room 110 on Thursdays from 6:30-9 p.m.

“I think it would be helpful for the ranching community around here to attend this class.” Said Bolze, “That is why its at night, we hope to appeal to more members of the community.”

Members of the Chadron community are welcome to attend the classes and can contact Ron Bolze by email [email protected].
