CSC women rope in team title
CSC women’s rodeo team received the team title with 460.5 points between two cowgirl’s participation at the Gillette & Sheridan College Rodeo over the weekend, March 18-21, at Gillette, Wyoming.
Quincy Segelke, senior of Douglas, Wyoming, placed in three of her events, racking up 311.5 points in her all-around standings. She earned the all-around cowgirl for the weekend.
Segelke took second in breakaway roping with a time of 2.6 seconds and goat tying with a time of 7.6 seconds. She tied for fifth in the barrel race with a run of 14.14 seconds.
“It is always a huge confidence boost going into the season having a good weekend,” Segelke said in a letter to the email. “It helps to keep the ball rolling through the rest of the rodeos when the first rodeo sets your season up for success.”
Brianna Williams, senior of Buffalo, South Dakota, roped the calf in 2.5 seconds competing in the breakaway roping and earning her first place.
For the men’s side of the rodeo, Rowdy Moon, graduate* of Sargent, earned 71 points for his bareback ride, tying for second and third.
Carson Good, senior of Long Valley, South Dakota, finished third in the steer wrestling with a time of 5.0 seconds.
Behind Good in the steer wrestling, Chadron State took seventh to 10th. Taking seventh, Seth Shorb, junior of Hermosa, South Dakota, wrestled his steer in 6.2 seconds. Tanner McInerney, junior of Alzada, Montana, took eight with a time of 6.9 seconds; Tate Petrak, senior of Martin, South Dakota, timed for 7.0 seconds, took ninth; and Parker Johnston, freshman of Maywood, finished tenth with a run of 7.3 seconds.
McInerney placed in tie down roping with a time of 10.9 seconds, tying for seventh and eighth.
“The entire team did great this weekend,” Segelke said. “The team aspect is a huge part of college rodeo. The Eagle women are sitting second in the region and the top two teams get to go to the college finals.”
Within the Sheridan College rodeo, part of the weekend in the Gillette arena, Johnston won the steer wrestling with a takedown in 4.6 seconds.
Other placements in the Sheridan rodeo include: Petrak who wrestled his steer in 6.5 seconds, placing fifth; Segelke took third in goat tying, timed for 7.2 seconds; and Phannette Gray, sophomore of Ridgeview, South Dakota, took third with a run of 2.7 seconds in breakaway roping.
The rodeo team continued their spring schedule with a trip to Torrington, Wyoming for the Eastern Wyoming College rodeo starting Friday and ending Sunday.
“The best part of rodeoing is that you can always go to another one,” Segelke said. “We will keep setting goals and keep working to achieve them!”
