During their March 17 meeting, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission along with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, introduced a 5-year, experimental two-tier system for duck hunting.
There has been a decrease in the number of duck hunters since 1990, a survey done by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks and University of Nebraska-Lincoln credits this decrease to fear of misidentification.
To encourage new duck hunters, the two-tier system will have one traditional tier and one experimental tier.
Tier one allow hunters to bag six ducks but hunters must follow sex and species regulations. Tier two allows hunters to bag 3 ducks of any species or sex.
Once hunters select a tier for the season, it can not be changed.
The 2021-2022 duck and coot season dates are; Zone 1, Oct. 16–Dec. 28, Zone 2 and Low Plains Zone, Oct. 9-Dec. 21, Zone 3, Oct. 23-Jan. 4, High Plains Zone, Jan. 5-26 and Zone 4, Oct. 31- Jan. 11.
Daily limit for tier one is six ducks and tier two is three ducks. The possession limit is three times the daily limit for both tiers.
