Eagles jump for high marks in Kearney

Track continues to excel in the jumps but also see great success in relays while competing, Saturday, at University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Within the men’s triple jump, Chadron State took the top four places. 

Derrick Nwagwu, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado, won the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet, 10.5 inches. Half an inch behind him was Naishawn Jernigan, sophomore of Springfield, Massachusetts, taking second with 45 feet, 10 inches.  

Joss Linse, junior of Plattsmouth, took third, leaping 45 feet, 8 inches, and Brock Voth, junior of Berthoud, Colorado, jumped 45 feet, 7 inches, placing him fourth. 

Jumping 22 feet, 11.75 inches, Javan Lanier, graduate of Aurora, Colorado, placed second in the long jump. 

Jernigan also took third in long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 6.25 inches. Linse finished behind Jernigan in the long jump, taking fourth with a jump of 22 feet, 3.75 inches. 

For the 4×100 relay, Chadron entered two separate teams. One team, comprised of Lanier; Emory Yoosook, freshman of Casper, Wyoming; Morgan Fawver, freshman of McCook; Brodie Roden, junior of Riverton, Wyoming; finished second with 41.68 seconds. 

The second team finished fourth with a time of 43.26 seconds comprised of Jernigan; Ishmael DePaullite, sophomore of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming; Harley Rhoades, junior of Douglas, Wyoming; and Osvaldo Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh. 

In the 4×400, the team comprised on Osvaldo Cano, Fawver, Rhoades, and Roden won the race with a time of 3:16.20. Greg Logsdon, freshman of Torrington, Wyoming; Osiel Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh; Logan Peila, freshman of Miles City, Montana; Logan Moravec, sophomore of Gering, made up the second team who took sixth with a time of 3:28.01. 

Jourdaine Cerenil, freshman of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, tied with Miranda Gilkey, junior of Lusk, Wyoming, for fourth place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2.25 inches. Gilkey also finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 6 inches.
