Eagles steal a win in Colorado
Chadron State’s softball team wins their last of four games against Adams State Grizzlies
The Eagles win one of four games played over the weekend against Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, giving the Eagles an 8-19 record following the games.
On Saturday, Chadron State College lost both of its five-inning games to Adams State, 13-4 and 10-2.
Bailey Rominger, senior of Vail, Arizona; Angelica Maples, senior of Marysville, California; Addison Spears, freshman of Berthoud, Colorado; and Ellie Owens, senior of Longmont, Colorado, were the players that made their way home in the first game.
Maples had two of the five hits during the first game, and batted a runner in. Spears, Bailey Marvel, sophomore of Lakewood, Colorado, and Sloane Quijas, freshman of Erie, Colorado, also contributed a hit and a runner batted in each.
Owens and Marvel were the two players to earn runs in the Eagles second Saturday match, and Marvel earned an RBI. Jessie Henchenski, freshman of Fort Collins, Colorado, contributed three of the seven hits and Samantha Conradie, freshman of Broomfield, Colorado, earned two hits. Owens and Rominger were the other two batters contributing a hit each.
Returning to ASU Softball Field Sunday, the Eagles were barely beat by the Grizzlies in their first game, 6-5.
Marvel made her way around the bases twice and hit three of the eight recorded.
Maples, Owens, and Mackenzi Kroll, freshman of Brighton, Colorado, were the other Eagles that were brought home. Owens brought in two batters with her two hits, while Spears and Gabby Russell, junior of Oceanside, California, brought in one each.
The Eagles finished out their weekend with a win against Adams State, scoring seven runs to the Grizzles’ three.
Each of the runs earned RBIs for the team. Quijas and Russell earned two each. Spears, Conradie and Owens earned one each.
Of their seven runs, Quijas was brought home three times, Marvel scored twice, while Conradie and Kroll earned one run each.
The Eagles earned 14 hits, Quijas leading for the Eagles with four hits. Marvel, Henchenski and Spears each hit twice, and Conradie contributed one.
Over the weekend, Peyton Propp, sophomore of Lakewood, Colorado, pitched a total of 10 innings across three of the four games. Propp pitched 259 total pitches, facing 63 batters and nine strikeouts, six of which were in the final game against the Grizzlies.
Russell pitched as the closer for the first two games and pitched the full third game for a total of eight innings and 143 pitches. She faced 52 batters, earning a strike out during the first game.
Chadron State will host another series of doubleheaders against Black Hills State University starting at noon, Saturday, at the CSC Softball Field.
