Is social media starting a class war?

If you’ve spent any amount of time on social media, you have likely seen trendy phrases such as “Eat the rich” and “Topple the system” floating around. As more people get access to internet, information about America’s upper class is released, causing uproar.

On TikTok alone, there are over 500 million views on videos about Jeff Bezos alone.

Bezos, the billionaire CEO of Amazon, has come under fire for not paying livable wages, stifling small business and hurting the environment despite having more than enough money to stop global warming.

What’s more, Jeff Bezos is not alone.

Other billionaires are also taking advantage of their workers and polluting the planet for profit.

Young people are getting angry. Calls for change echo around the internet, some of them gaining quite a bit of popularity. ‘Eat the rich’ is now commonly used by middle and lower-class workers to expose the huge gap between themselves and the ‘one percent’; who exploits them?

Could this be the start of a class war?

Although communism is still considered taboo, there is enough outrage to spark real tension between Americans. This outrage is also in part of the ‘Blue Wave’; or the rise of liberalism in young voters.

Since the majority of Generation Z voted for President Joe Biden, it feels like our voices have been heard. Even more, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently wore a gown with the phrase ‘TAX THE RICH’ to the MetGala, arguably one of the biggest displays of wealth of the year. The tide is turning in the common man’s favor.

However, if such a war is to happen, who will fight in it? What will be the outcome?

More than likely, it will look like reform, taxes and breaking up monopolies such as Amazon and Disney.

Social media users are calling on the Anti-Trust Act to keep giant companies from controlling the economy and plummeting quality of life.

We are tired of working multiple minimum-wage jobs just to stay afloat.

It is time to take back our liberties from a government that cares more about the few than the many. There is now a

bigger audience than ever to push back against the billionaires that oppress us and destroy our planet.

If we are truly getting ready to ‘Eat the rich’ and start a class war, the internet is on our side.
