CSC golf team starts spring season with success

The Eagles don’t need to get back in the swing of things, they are already finding success back on the golf course.

“I think as a team, we all wish we would have won the two tournaments because we are definitely capable of that,” Kinsey Smith, sophomore of Windsor, Colorado, said. “Each of us had our bad holes and rough days, so I know we are disappointed with some aspects of our performances, but I still think we should be proud of placing high on the team side for the two tournaments.”

Chadron State golf team finished second as a team at the Warrior Invitational, March 7 and 8.

Smith dusted off her clubs to take her first college individual tournament win at the spring season’s first invite with 157 total strokes, despite finishing her wrestling season at Nationals two days before, March 5.

“Going into the first golf tournament of the season after coming straight from wrestling, I was worried I wasn’t going to be in golf tournament shape right away because that turnaround was so quick,” Smith said. “But I just went out there, tried my best, and let myself have fun, and it turned out pretty well for me. I was also very lucky to have the support of my wrestling team and coach going into the tournament; they kept up with my scores and were cheering me on from back home.”

After taking second at the Warrior Invitational, Chadron State College women’s golf team continued swinging in Las Vegas for the Legacy Invitational Thursday and Friday.

The Eagles finished third place as a team, 341-337-678 with Alpine Hickstein, junior of Chadron, leading the team to tie eighth. She finished with 169 strokes with 86 for the first day and 83 for the second.

For the invite Thursday and Friday, Smith had a score card of 83-87-170 after Friday’s competition to tie 10th.

Brooke Kramer, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado, finished tied at 12th place with 171 strokes by Friday, having 87 strokes the first day and 84 the second.

The Eagles continue their spring season at Colorado State University-Pueblo’s El Cheapo Classic Sunday and Monday in Pueblo.
