Eagles saddle up for spring season

CSC cowboys and cowgirls return to the rodeo grounds for their spring season starting at the Gillette College over the weekend.

At the Lamar College Rodeo, which was the last rodeo of the fall season, the CSC rodeo team had seven entries make the finals. 

Brianna Williams, senior of Buffalo, South Dakota,: first go-round of barrel race in 17.87 seconds but with a time of 18.53 in the final go-round, she finished in sixth.

Three steer wrestlers found the finals as well with Zane Zilverberg, sophomore of Holabird, South Dakota, in the lead at eighth with 9.3 seconds and finished fourth place overall with a time that was marked for a second faster.

Colton Storer, junior of Arthur, held onto third place with 5.1 seconds going into the finals but finished with a time of 13.5 seconds to take fifth in the event. Teigan Marchant, senior of Newcastle, Wyoming, was able to place seventh after his first round at 9.1 seconds but was unable to record a time in the finals. 

In goat tying Kedra Clark, sophomore of Yoder, Wyoming, shared sixth in a four-way tie with times of 7.5 and 10.0 seconds.

BreAnne Benson, sophomore of Fargo, North Dakota, and Payton Gorwill, freshman of Hyannis, also made it to finals in breakaway roping during their last rodeo at 3.1 seconds and 3.4 seconds respectively.

The Eagles’ schedule consists of five rodeos in the spring, including Gillette’s, before the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo June 12-18 in Casper, Wyoming.
