Four Eagles gain national experience

Four athletes represented Chadron State College at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships even though no one was able to come away with a medal, Friday and Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Three athletes competed on Friday.

Dan Reynolds, sophomore of Granby, Colorado, who had set the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet record before, finished 12 of 17 throwers in the 35-pound weight throw with his farthest throw at 61 feet, 8.5 inches (18.81 meters). He also earned second team all-American honors.

Also marking the farthest with this third attempt, Morgan Fawver, junior of McCook, leaped 23 feet, 6 inches (7.16 meters) to place 14th out of 16 contestants. He had qualified for nationals with a farther jump of 24 feet, 4.5 inches.

The third athlete to compete on Friday and the only one representing the women’s team was Jourdaine Cerenil, sophomore of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, in the high jump. Despite her best going into nationals was 5 feet, 7.75 inches, she finished 14th, marked at 5 feet, 3.75 inches.

Moving into Saturday, Darrick Nwagwu, junior of Aurora, Colorado, earned his farthest jump during his second attempt at 46 feet, 4.5 inches (14.13 meters) to take 17th in triple jump. His current best is 48 feet, 11 inches (14.91 meters).

With the indoor season officially over, CSC track and field team will prepare for their outdoor season as well as host the indoor High School Invitational on Saturday in the Nelson Physical Activity Center.
