Eagles putt in familiar numbers

Chadron State golf team finished sixth and tied the college’s all-time 36-round team score record after two 18-hole rounds in one day, Sunday, during the Pack Classic at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colorado.

“I was happy to see that we came together as a team and pushed through a difficult day having to play 36 holes,” Jordan Grasis, junior of Yuma, Arizona, said. “Even though we all played well, I believe that we all feel that we left a lot of opportunities out on the course. So, when those opportunities come again we will be better prepared.”

The Eagles finished out its first round with 309 before playing their second round, both on Sunday, to earn 625 strokes total. They placed in the top half of 15 teams, being the top four of 11 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.

The all-time 36-round team score record was set at 625 strokes last year with the same golfers being on the team, during the RJGA Palm Valley Classic at Goodyear, Arizona.

Grasis led the way for the Eagles by golfing under 80 both rounds. She finished tied for seventh at 152 total strokes.

“I think I played well,” she said. “There are some areas of my game that I could have improved on but all in all I am happy with my performance.”

Alpine Hickstein, junior of Chadron, four-way tie at 22 along with Brooke Kramer, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado, at 156 total strokes. Hickstein finished both rounds with 78 strokes while Kramer had 75 strokes on the first round and 81 strokes on the second.

The Eagles relax for a week before competing in the Hardrocker Spring Invitational, April 4-5, the last invite of the season before the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.
