CSC cowboy takes steer wrestling again
The Eagles continue their spring season with another first in the steer wrestling and two placements in breakaway roping during the rodeo hosted by Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington.
Teigen Marchant, senior of Newcastle, Wyoming, wrestled into first with an average of 9.9 seconds in steer wrestling. He finished the long-go round in fourth at 5.9 seconds before taking down his steer in 4.0 seconds in the short-go.
“I was really hoping that Teigan would do well this weekend since he did good last weekend at Gillette as well,” Rylee Naprstek, freshman of Gothenburg, said. “He had a good run in the long go and I knew he would have a good shot at winning it in the short go if he just made a smooth run, and he did.”
In the breakaway roping, three CSC cowgirls solidified their spot in the final go-round. Naprstek roped in third at 2.5 seconds. Tayle Brink, senior of Reva, South Dakota, was fifth at 2.7 seconds, and Sierra Lee, junior of Rhame, North Dakota, was sixth at 2.9 seconds before finals.
“I feel like I performed fairly well in Torrington,” Naprstek said. “This was the first time that I had made it to the short go so I was pretty nervous, but I tried to not let the nerves get to me and just went out and do what I knew how to do.”
Naprstek finished the rodeo in second at 2.9 seconds in her last go, averaging 5.4 seconds while Brink moved up to third at 3.1 seconds with an average of 5.8 seconds.
Tanner McInerney, senior of Alzada, Montana, finished in two of his events. He finished seventh tie-down roping with a 28 second total, being sixth after the first go-round at 11.2 seconds.
“We definitely had a better weekend at Torrington than we did at Gillette,” Naprstek said. “We had a little bit of a rocky start at the first rodeo, but this weekend we redeemed ourselves and had more people make good runs and make it into the short go.”
McInerney also finished sixth in team roping with Casper College’s Nevada Berquist, junior of Watford City, North Dakota. Their first run was 12.4 seconds before having a 5.9-second run in finals for a 18.3 average.
Chadron State rodeo team partakes in the rodeo hosted by Colorado State University starting Friday in Fort Collins.
