Take a walk

Luckily we live in a country that has plenty of parks for walks, any day of the year.

In 1916, the National Park System was established which now contains 423 national park sites and 84 million acres of land to be explored.

Other than the national parks we have city parks, national grasslands and forests and state parks that we can enjoy.

There are plenty of the benefits to taking a walk in the park or just spending time outside, both physical and mental.

Some studies show that being outside helps to lift your mood and make you happier overall. Getting more vitamin D can help to regulate moods.

Green exercise or just hanging out in nature for just 20 minutes can help improve concentration and impulse control, according to the National Park Service.

Spending time outside with your friends or loved ones can strengthen your relationships and help everyone to destress.

As we get closer to finals, stress becomes a normal factor in most students lives.

Personally, I find that even sitting in the backyard to do homework  can help boost my mood and help me focus.

I always feel better after spending some time hiking or just hanging out in my hammock, reading or taking a nap.

Take a break and hike C-hill, check out the labyrinth or hang out near Briggs pond, to help boost your mood.

There are plenty of places around Chadron that are great for studying, like the park across the street from High Rise.

Chadron State Park and Fort Robinson State Park  are also beautiful places to get ready to prepare for your final exams.

Sometimes its nice to just get some fresh air and enjoy the sun on your face.

CSC also provides students with sand volleyball courts, basketball courts and plenty of other outdoor activities that anyone can enjoy.

With warm weather approaching (hopefully), I’m looking forward to swimming in lakes and running through creeks, as soon as I can.

So, take that group project outside or give your speech to the campus squirrels.

I know it is easy to get caught up in all of your homework, applying for jobs or working but take a break and well, take a hike.

Enjoy the beauty of the natural world around us and all the amazing things we have to experience.

So next time life isn’t treating you right, take a walk in the park.

March 30 is National Walk in the Park Day, which sadly was a snowy day in Chadron.
