Throwers excel at first outdoor meets

Chadron State College starts its outdoor track season by splitting the team to two different meets, the Spank Blasing Open hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo in Pueblo and the Yellow Jacket Spring Open hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota, and both places saw success for the Eagles.

Daniel Reynolds, freshman of Granby, Colorado, continued his record-setting trend from the end of the indoor season and carried it outside by setting the school record in the hammer throw. With a throw of 196 feet, 11 inches (59.94 meters), Reynolds also took first in the event.

At the Spank Blasing Open, Quest Savery, freshman of Miles City, Montana, took first in javelin at 190 feet, 8 inches (58.12 meters). Dylan Soule, freshman of Polk, finished second with a throw of 173 feet (52.73 meters).

While in Spearfish, South Dakota, Shane Collins, sophomore of Bison, South Dakota, excelled in the hammer throw to take first with a toss of 193 feet (58.83 meters). Collins also took second in shot put at 48 feet, 10.75 inches (14.9 meters).

Also at the Yellow Jacket Spring Open, Courtney Smith, sophomore of Rock Springs, Wyoming, finished third in the hammer throw at 158 feet, 2 inches (48.21 meters).

Kristie Hill, freshman of Big Springs, placed second in high jump to clear 10 feet, 2.5 inches.

Other tracksters saw major successes at  the Spank Blasing Open with three addition second-place finishes.

Creighton Trembley, freshman of Longmont, Colorado, finished the 110 high hurdles at 14.54 seconds to take second.

Another second place came from the 4×100 relay—ran by Trembly; Morgan Fawver, redshirt freshman of McCook; Osvaldo Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh; and Brodie Roden, junior of Riverton, Wyoming—with a 41.22 time.

For the women at Pueblo, Jourdaine Cerenil, freshman of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, cleared 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump to place second.

In the jumps, Fawver finished fourth in the long jump at 24 feet, 1 inch (7.34 meters), and Brock Voth, junior of Berthoud, Colorado, also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 47 feet, 4.5 inches (14.44 meters).

The 4×400 relay also placed fourth at 3:22.0, consisting of Jahani Wright, junior of Miami; Logan Peila, freshman of Miles City, Montana; Osiel Cano, sophomore of Oshkosh; and Greg Logsdon, freshman of Torrington, Wyoming.

At BHSU, Harley Rhoades, junior of Douglas, Wyoming, competed in the decathlon and finished with 5,674 points to take third.

Pete Brown, sophomore of Oxford, also competed to take fourth in the decathlon with 5,438 points.

CSC track team competes at the Maverick Classic Friday and Saturday hosted by Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
