ESports ends spring season

Esports has finished their first competitive spring season with Call of Duty:Vanguard, Apex legends and Rocket League competitive teams.

Call of Duty came close to making playoff with two losses after starting off the season with three wins and one loss. The team consisted of Kobe Lepe, Javen Palmer, Terry Winstead, Seth Simants, Samiyah Worrell, and Ryan Sparrow.

Rocket League lost the final elimination match during the AVGL Division 2 tournament, making them one win short of qualifying for playoffs. The team was able to compete in the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Soccar invitation. They beat a Junior varsity team from Northwestern University 3-0.

“Being a part of the team this year has given me a lot of new responsibility as a leader and a player,” Ryan Sparrow, sophomore of Brighton, Colorado,  Rocket League team leader said. “I enjoyed the experience of doing something I loved to watch when I was a kid and see how those people felt in the chair. The season went in my opinion great, getting to play with some great players and help them grow and have them help me grow was great. The players that we had brought a incredible attitude to the team and also great talent.”

Apex legends competed in tournaments including the American Video Game League (AVGL) Odd Man Out event, wining two matches before being eliminated.

“This was to me a super successful season for us with a lot of big firsts for our teams,” Andrew Kurtenbach, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, competitive lead said. “It was a blast getting to head these teams and watch all of them come together to improve throughout the season. All the players showed a lot of dedication to eSports, and this is exactly what will continue to drive us heading into next year. This next year for ports is going to be a huge one and I can’t wait for everyone to see!”
