New IDEA space for students starting this fall
CSC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee held an open house on Tuesday for the new Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access Space located in the Reta King Library, Room 109.
“We are excited to open the IDEA Space,” Ted Tewahade, DEI committee chair, said. “Many students, as well as faculty, and staff have put in a lot of effort to make the IDEA Space a reality.”
The IDEA Space is a safe space for underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and others to meet, organize, research, and study, and to foster community, solidarity, and trust. The DEI committee hopes that the space will create a culture of care and inclusivity on campus.
“The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee hopes the IDEA Space becomes an area where individuals can gather and support one another,” Tewahade said.
Starting in the fall, the IDEA space will be open 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-10 p.m. on Sunday.
The committee also plans for the space to be an area where members will host office hours for the benefit of students beginning in the fall semester. They also hope to see the IDEA Space grow beyond the walls of the Reta King Library in the future.
“Long term, the DEI committee hopes the IDEA Space grows out of the room and have an entire facility on campus dedicated to celebrating diversity,” Tewahade said.
