Time outside is important

As the spring semester comes to an end, I know that I can’t wait to get outside. Even if you are not going to be working outside, summer is one of the best times to spend some time in nature.

There are a lot of ways to enjoy nature and to learn more about the world around you.

Personally, I like to keep a journal or two, write down the wildlife and plants that you see and take the time to learn more about them.

I know it can be overwhelming, working during the summer, taking summer classes and trying to maintain a social life. Despite not having a lot of time, it can be really beneficial to take a break out in nature.

Summer is a great time to try something new like, overnight hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, skydiving, surfing or seeing some new areas.

Take a weekend and go camping, even if you don’t want to leave your campsite. Take a walk or hike, even if its just through a city park.

Pools are great but swimming in a creek or lake just feels more refreshing. Go fishing or take some time to observe wildlife.

Watch a sunset or sunrise, catch some fireflies and smell the fresh air.

Nature is good for us

While getting out and exploring is great, its also important to remember to leave no trace. Leave the land as you found it and make sure to pack everything out that you packed in.

Taking side by sides out is a good way to see a lot of nature but make sure to stick to marked and open trails and try not to damage the roads.

Its also a good time to appreciate all the people who work to keep our public lands, public, wild and free. Thank the wildlife biologists, forest service rangers and park rangers for all the work that they do.
