Eagle men bounce back on win streak

An unstoppable offensive attack from the CSC men’s basketball team was the deciding factor in three consecutive victories for the Eagles over Thanksgiving break at home, and in Odessa, Texas.
After three close losses to start the season, the Eagles were eager to find the first win of the season. Last week’s games against the University of Nebraska-Kearney, Jarvis Christian, of Hawkins, Texas, and Ecclesia, of Springdale, Arkansas, turned out to be the big break the Eagles were looking for, beating each team by double-digit figures.
The Eagles game against the Lopers of UNK was far different than it has been in past years. The Lopers, who just a year prior beat CSC by 21, have always been a struggle for the Eagles. However, accurate shooting and strong rebounding would push CSC ahead of the Lopers.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead and held it for the rest of the game. They nearly doubled the Lopers’ rebounding production, recording 41 to UNK’s 25. For shooting, the Eagles recorded .500 in field goal shooting, including 11 three-pointers. All of this was enough for the Eagles to defeat the Lopers for the first time since 2018, 91-72.
Over the holiday weekend, the Eagles traveled to Odessa, Texas, for the Permian Basin Thanksgiving Classic. CSC’s offensive power continued through the weekend.
The Eagles were on fire from the start of Friday’s game against the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian University.
A handful of three-pointers at the end of the first half put the Eagles at an 18-point advantage going into halftime. Similar scoring production from CSC put victory too far out of reach for the Bulldogs. The Eagles won 78-55.
The following Saturday, CSC took on the Royals of Ecclesia and immediately ran away with the game. The Eagles doubled the Royals scoring in the first half, scoring 57 to Ecclesia’s 25.
The second half was closer in scoring but was not nearly enough for the Royals to overcome CSC’s 29-point lead. The Eagles went on to win their third straight game, defeating the Royals 94-65.
Over the holiday week, the Eagles were led once again by Isaiah Wyatt, junior of Fort Worth, Texas. Wyatt continues to be the Eagles biggest scoring asset.
Across the three victories, he racked 59 total points, shooting .563 from field goal range, including .650 from the arc. He also recorded 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block.
Another big help for the Eagles came from forward Josh Robinson, junior of Paris, Texas. Over the week, Robinson scored 36 total points, shooting .785 from field goal range missing just six shots across the three games
Robinson also led the team over the week in total rebounds with 23. Additionally, he recorded three assists and two steals.
The Eagles will look to continue their win streak when they start RMAC play at home against the Thunderwolves of CSU Pueblo, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, in the Chicoine Center.
