Garcia leads Eagles in Doane Open

The Chadron State College women’s wrestling team competed in Crete on Saturday for the first-ever Doane University women’s open meet.
The CSC women’s wrestling team brought 9 members, 7 of the 9 were freshman. Three freshman were the top placers of the tournament, Kayley Garcia, Marissa Porsch, and Brianna Vollendroff.
The tournament champion was Kayley Garcia at 143-pounds. The freshman of Vista, California, went 3-0 with three tech falls.
CSC freshman, Marissa Porsch at 155-pounds of Selden, Kansas, set a season record with three pins and two tech falls, and a win by fall. Placing Porsch third overall. Porsch defeated the two time defending junior college national champion of Indian Hills Community College, CSC Head Women’s Wrestling Coach Alijah Jeffery’s former team.
Brianna Vollendroff, freshman of Oroville, California, comes in fourth place at 109 pounds, making it to the consolation round.
The Eagles will host their first ever women’s duals on Dec. 10, with Hastings College and Minot State.
