Men’s wrestling lands shutout on Panthers

By Breanne Benson

The CSC men’s wrestling started the new year off strong with a 57-0 win over the York University Panthers on Sunday in York.

York did not have any wrestlers for the 149 and 197-pound classes. Additionally, the men who were anticipated to wrestle at 141 and 157-pounds failed to make weight causing York to forfeit those four classes.

Moreover, the Eagles swept all six of the remaining matches for a commanding shutout victory

Preston Renner, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, wrestled in the 165-pound weight class for the first time this season after recovering from an injury. He won his match 16-3 over York’s Dayton Fraser.

184-pounder Keegan Gehlhausen, freshman of Pinedale, Wyoming, won his match 17-1 blowout.

Quade Smith, sophomore of Layton, Utah, at 125 lbs, Quen Campbell, junior of Tifton, Georgia, at 133 lbs, Rowdy Pfeil, junior of Moorcroft, Wyoming at 174 lbs, and heavyweight Mason Watt, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, all pinned their opponents.

“When you look forward, we have some huge tests for our program,” CSC Men’s Wrestling Head Coach Brett Hunter said, “I am looking forward to seeing how our guys respond to competing on the road against some tough competition.”

This weekend the Eagles will travel to Alamosa, Colorado, on Friday to wrestle the NCAA Division II sixth-ranked Adams State and then to Las Vegas, New Mexico, on Saturday to wrestle the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys.
