The CSC men’s wrestling team is now 4-5 overall after losing to NCAA sixth-ranked Adams State 9-29 and winning 31-10 against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys on Friday and Saturday on the road.
The Eagles struggled on Friday against the Grizzlies, winning only two matches. Keegan Gehlhausen, redshirt freshman of Pinedale, Wyoming, went 8-7 against ASU’s Hunter Tobiasson.
Heavyweight Mason Watt, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, pinned Abe Garcia in the first period of the match.
For the other matches of the day, the Eagles kept the scores low, but the Adams State Grizzlies pulled ahead and won the dual in the end.
Senior wrestlers Watt and Preston Renner, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, thought that the team fought hard, but didn’t wrestle to their full potential.
“Overall, I think we are much better than what we showed against them,” said Renner.
“We could’ve wrestled a lot better than we did,” Watt added. “I truthfully think we could’ve won that dual. I’m proud of my team overall though.”
Saturday went much better for the Eagles who won eight of the 10 matches against Highlands.
“It was great to see us turn around and wrestle to our potential against Highlands,” Watt said.
The Eagles will take the mat against the NCAA 16th-ranked Colorado Mesa, at 7 p.m. today, in the Chicoine Center for the last home dual of the season.
