The CSC track and field team had another exceptional meet last Saturday at the Myrle Hanson Open in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Among the great CSC performances, it was men’s and women’s throwers who stood out in every event of the day.
In the men’s division, CSC’s Dan Reynolds, junior of Granby, Colorado, dominated in both the shot put and the weight throw. He earned first place in the shot put with a throw of 15.47 meters, edging out teammates Parker Gonser, junior of Windsor, Colorado, and Reid Spady, junior of Oshkosh, who secured second and third place respectively.
Reynolds went on to run away with the weight throw. He earned another first place with a throw of 19.60 meters, beating the next best throw of 16.90 meters by Black Hills State’s Sully Mack, senior of Watertown, South Dakota.
CSC thrower Kyla Sawvell, similarly to Reynolds, swept up the women’s division, earning first in the shot put and weight throw.
In shot put, she threw 13.97 meters, beating the next best throw by nearly two meters. In the weight throw, she threw 19.45 meters, winning by three meters in the same vein as Reynolds.
Madyson Schliep, graduate student of Grand Island, was able to lock up third in the weight throw with a throw of 14.36 meters. Morgan Ekwall, junior of Yoder, Wyoming, took fifth in shot put with a throw of 11.62 meters as well.
Some other CSC athletes found success in South Dakota. Carlie Collier, senior of Dunning, was able to secure second place in both the 60 meter and 200 meter dash.
Jourdaine Cerenil, junior of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, and Destiny Pelton, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado, took first and second place respectively in high jump.
Quincy Efeturi, sophomore of Ikorodu, Nigeria, led the CSC men’s runners taking first place in 60 meter dash and second place in the 200 meter dash.
James Bruner, freshman of Scottsbluff, and Alec Penfield, junior of Lusk, Wyoming, took first and second place respectively in high jump, and the CSC men’s 1600-meter relay team took first place as well with a time of 3:25.95.
The Eagles will compete again on Friday when they travel to Brookings, South Dakota, for the South Dakota State University Indoor Invite.
