Both the CSC men’s and women’s teams found immense success in Brookings, South Dakota, at the South Dakota State University Division II Indoor Meet on Friday.
Despite the large size of the SDSU meet, the Eagles came away with another large sum of team points, winning in team sweepstakes for the men’s division and taking second in the women’s division.
Leading the way for the Eagles once again was the throwing unit, who came away with twelve individual placers, including a champion in each throwing event and division.
Dan Reynolds, junior of Granby, Colorado, had another standout meet, winning the weight throw with a throw of 19.47 meters and the shot put with a throw of 15.57 meters. It was the third straight meet where Reynolds took first place in both throwing events.
Parker Gonser, junior of Windsor, Colorado, and Christopher Jennings, sophomore of O’Neil, placed third in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw, respectively.
Kyla Sawvell, senior of Wall, South Dakota, once again cleaned up the women’s throwing events in similar fashion, winning the weight throw by over 2 meters with a throw of 18.37 meters and the shot put with a throw of 14.50 meters.
Courtney Smith, junior of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Madyson Schliep, graduate student of Grand Island, took second and seventh in the weight throw, respectively. Morgan Ekwall, junior of Yoder, Wyoming, placed eighth in the shot put.
In the running events, the Eagles were led by Osvaldo Cano, junior of Oshkosh, who won the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 22.13 seconds and placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.19 seconds. Creighton Trembley, sophomore of Longmont, Colorado, also found success in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, placing second with a time of 8.15 seconds.
Carlie Collier, junior of Dunning, ran well again in the women’s 200-meter dash, placing second with a time of 25.57 seconds. She placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.70 seconds.
The jumpers were led by Jourdaine Cerenil, sophomore of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, and Destiny Pelton, sophomore of Fort Morgan, Colorado, who placed first and second respectively in the high jump.
Alec Penfield, junior of Lusk, Wyoming, James Bruner, freshman of Scottsbluff, and Hector Ortega, sophomore of Northglenn, Colorado, placed third, fourth, and fifth in the high jump respectively.
In total, the Eagle men scored 73.5 team points, tying Northern State, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, for first. The Eagle women scored 88 team points, enough to earn them second in the team sweepstakes.
