Eagles mop up Western Mountaineers at home

The CSC men’s basketball team is on its longest win streak of the season after defeating the Western Colorado Mountaineers, of Gunnison, 87-72 last Thursday in the Chicoine Center.
After lopsided double-digit victory of the Mountaineers, the Eagles are now two wins away from clinching a spot in the RMAC Championship Tournament later this month.
Thursday’s game started off slow for the Eagles, a common occurrence from a team whose majority scoring comes from second half of the game.
Chadron and Western were neck and neck at 29-29, after 10 minutes of play. However, the Eagles quickly broke out to a commanding lead, going on a 16-point run, before the half was out.
Going into halftime, the Eagles were leading the Mountaineers 45-31, a lead that Chadron would hold onto for the rest of the night.
The second half fared nearly the same for Chadron State, scoring another 42 points and winning the game, 87-72.
The Eagles through the entire course of the game were led by Bryce Latimer, junior of Stone Mountain, Georgia, who has become somewhat of a sixth starter for Eagles with his ability to come off of the bench and make the same impact on the court as the starting five.
He has done all of this in his first year as an Eagle after transferring from NJCAA Hill College, of Hillsboro, Texas.
Against the Mountaineers, Latimer racked up 25 points, shooting .750 from the field and .875 from the free-throw line. He also recorded 10 assists for a double-double performance.
Isaiah Wyatt, junior of Fort Worth, Texas, followed right behind Latimer with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. He shot .545 from the field. He also recorded seven offensive rebounds and two blocks.
The Eagles will take the court on the road against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys, of Las Vegas, New Mexico, at 7 p.m. Friday.
