Four Eagles win in Topeka, KS

While it wasn’t the most exiting weekend of the season, the CSC track and field team still found success in Topeka, Kansas, at the Washburn University Ichabod Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The large Washburn competition was by far the most competitive for the Eagles this season. Despite this, CSC was still able to pull away with four champions, a handful of individual placers, and a school record.

Dan “Shug” Reynolds, junior of Granby, Colorado, led the Eagles throwers, taking first place in the weight throw with a distance of 20.31 meters, beating out everyone else in the competition by nearly 2 meters.

Reynolds placed third in the shot put, throwing 15.76 meters.

Parker Gonser, junior of Windsor, Colorado, followed close behind Reynolds, placing fifth in the shot put and setting a personal best with a throw of 15.53 meters. He took seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 16.63 meters as well.

Kyla Sawvell, senior of Wall, South Dakota, took fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 13.90 meters. She won the weight throw with a distance of 19.25 meters as well.

Once again, the Eagle jumpers were led by Jourdaine Cerenil, sophomore of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, who won the high jump with mark of 1.68 meters, a season high for Cerenil.

The lone CSC vaulter at the Topeka competition, Madison Clause, freshman of Billings, Montana, took fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.17 meters.

The CSC runners were led by Creighton Trembly, sophomore of Longmont, Colorado, who, despite placing second in the preliminary heats, won the 60-meter hurdles in finals, running a time of 8.15 seconds.

Carlie Collier, senior of Dunning, placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.29. She took fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.29 seconds.

Alissa Wieman, sophomore of Box Elder, South Dakota, took fourth in the 3000-meter run.

However, the most impressive performance came from Charles Fossey, freshman of Rock Springs, Wyoming. While he may have only placed ninth in the 3000-meter run, he ran a new personal best time of 8:24.95.

His time was good enough to break the school record of 8:30.25, previously held by Alejandro Garcia, former student of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

The Eagles return to the field house when they travel back to Spearfish, South Dakota, for the Black Hills State University Stinger Open, on Saturday.
