Six Eagles win in SD

The CSC track and field team competed in its final regular season indoor meet on Saturday, at the Black Hills State Stinger Open, in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Six CSC athletes were able to win nine events shared between the men’s and women’s divisions with four other schools competing.

Dan “Shug” Reynolds, junior of Granby, Colorado, led the Eagle throwers, winning the weight throw with a mark of 20.46 meters. He also won the shot put, throwing a personal best mark of 16.75 meters.

Reynolds is currently expected to win the RMAC in the weight throw as he leads the conference by nearly 2 meters. He also currently sits fifth in NCAA Division II weight throw.

In the women’s division, Kyla Sawvell, senior of Wall, South Dakota, won the weight throw with a mark of 19.91 meters. She also won the shot put with a mark of 14.50 meters.

Right behind Sawvell was Courtney Smith, junior of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Madyson Schliep, junior of Grand Island, who placed second and sixth in the weight throw respectively. Smith also placed seventh in shot put.

A handful of CSC newcomers and unfamiliar faces were able to claim victory in South Dakota as well.

Megan Baloun, freshman of Rapid City, South Dakota, won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.53 meters. Along with that, she won the long jump with a mark of 5.06 meters.

In the men’s division, Logan Moravec, junior of Gering, won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.24.

Alec Penfield, junior of Lusk, Wyoming, won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.90 meters. Right behind him was James Bruner, freshman of Scottsbluff, who placed third, clearing a height of 1.85 meters.

Emory Yoosook, junior of Casper, Wyoming, won the long jump with a jump of 6.64 meters, narrowly winning by .06 meters

The Eagles begin their indoor postseason when they travel to Alamosa, Colorado, for the 2023 RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
