Kinsey Smith, senior of Windsor, Colorado, found her way deeper into the Chadron State College record books on Tuesday, Sept. 19, when she pulled off a victory with a birdie in a one-hole playoff at the South Dakota School of Mines Invitational, making her the third ever CSC student to earn first place in two tournaments in a single career.
The CSC golf team made their way up to the Red Rock Golf Club in Rapid City, South Dakota, to tee up on Sept. 18 and 19.
In the wrap-up of the two-day invitational, Smith had shot 76 on the first day and 78 on the second day. She shot four bogeys on the front nine and followed up with three bogeys and a birdie to finish the tournament in the back nine, putting her at +10 for the tournament and tied first, but after a one-hole playoff round, she was victorious.
Among Smith, competing in the tournament stood Allison Acosta, senior of Oro Valley, Arizona, tying in 30th, Brooke Kramer, senior of Aurora, Colorado, tying in 32nd, Jordan Grasis, senior of Yuma, Arizona, finishing in 10th, Payton Wise, sophomore of Kimball, tying in 16th, Kenzey Kanno, senior of Mitchell, tying in 27th, and Aubree Heinsma, sophomore of Windsor, Colorado, tying in 37th.
In conclusion of the tournament, the Eagles placed in fourth as a team with a score of +47 in the first day and +50 the following day, placing three positions below the tournament’s host South Dakota Mines.
The Eagles will be back on the course when they travel to Marshall, Minnesota for the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Invite on Saturday and Sunday.
