The CSC rodeo team struggled last weekend at the Central Wyoming College rodeo in Riverton, Wyoming, despite a few top-four finishers.
The Eagles men’s team finished eighth overall with 40 average team points, a 215 point decrease from the Chadron hometown rodeo. Gillette College racked up 560 points and flew into first handedly as a team.
Grant Turek, senior of St. Paul, was the only provider of men’s team points for the Eagles, competing in the tie down roping. Turek roped 10.2 seconds in the long-go and 11.1 seconds in the finals to end up fifth in the average, scoring 40 average points for the Eagle men.
Jake Chasek, junior of Mitchell, roped in 9.8 seconds in the long-go, placing him sixth. Coming into the short-go, however, received a no-time during the finals.
Parker Johnston, senior of Maywood, was in the crying hole of 11th place for the steer wrestling with a 6.6-second run, 0.7 seconds behind the 10th place finisher to make it back to the short-go.
Jack Skavdahl, senior of Harrison, was the champion saddle bronc rider at Chadron’s hometown rodeo. Skavdahl spurred a bronc for 69 points in the long-go, but his success was short-lived when he was given a no score in the short-go. Despite Skavdahl’s success at the start of the college season, a knee injury that required surgery will unfortunately keep him out for the rest of the fall.
The Eagles women’s team finished sixth overall with 20 average team points. Gillette College came in first place with 225 points.
Elle Ravenscroft, junior of Nenzel, had another successful weekend of earning points in the barrel racing. Ravenscroft came into the short-go in ninth place with an 18.30-second run and ran a 18.50-second run in the short-go to finish her out in seventh place in the average with 20 team points.
The Eagles look to improve when they compete next at the Sheridan College rodeo on Friday through Sunday, in Sheridan, Wyoming.
