Eagles celebrate homecoming with community parade

By Esosa Iyengunmwena

The streets of downtown Chadron were filled with excitement on Saturday, September 27, as Chadron State College held its annual Homecoming parade. Students, faculty, alumni, and local residents came together to celebrate a tradition that continues to connect the campus and community.

The parade featured a wide variety of floats created by student clubs, athletic teams, and campus organizations. Each group brought its own creativity to the event, decorating trailers with banners, painted designs, and displays that reflected their school spirit. Along the route, students riding on the floats handed out candy to children, whose enthusiasm and laughter added to the festive atmosphere. Families lined the sidewalks, some settling into lawn chairs while others watched from the back of pickup trucks, waving as the procession moved through town.

The parade followed the crowning of Homecoming royalty on Friday evening, serving as one of the main highlights of the weekend’s festivities. In addition to the parade, the college hosted athletic events and alumni gatherings, all of which contributed to an atmosphere of pride and tradition.

For many in attendance, the parade symbolized more than just a celebration of Homecoming—it was also a reflection of the strong bond between Chadron State College and the surrounding community. The sight of maroon and white banners stretching down Main Street, combined with the sounds of cheering and laughter, showcased a shared sense of belonging and connection.

As the floats reached the end of the route and the streets began to clear, the spirit of the day remained. The Homecoming parade once again brought together generations of Eagles, reminding everyone why the tradition continues to hold such a meaningful place in Chadron’s history.
