Prescription Assistance & Essentials – Taking the Stress Out of College Life
By Jacci Gilbert
We all know college is expensive. Between tuition, rent, and books, the cost of medications or basic necessities can feel overwhelming.
That’s why WCHR offers Prescription Assistance for uninsured or underinsured students, connecting them to free or low-cost medications. One client summed it up: “I am able to have a better quality of life because of your help. Thank you again.”
Western Community Health Resources also provides support through the Community Essentials Pantry. This program helps students and families access essential hygiene items and cleaning products—things that often don’t fit into a tight budget but are necessary for health and well-being.
Have you ever skipped buying something essential, like laundry soap or shampoo, just to save money for rent or books? You’re not alone. The pantry was created after WCHR staff recognized that while food and clothing programs existed, there was a gap in access to personal and household hygiene supplies. Today, it fills that gap for students and families across Box Butte, Dawes, Sheridan, and Sioux Counties.
Why it matters for students: Your body and brain need more than just food and medicine to thrive. Having affordable access to essentials reduces stress, supports dignity, and makes it easier to focus on your education.
