Our culture has a growing sense that we are owed a great debt by others. Our rights and freedoms come with a heavy cost. Those who have stood in war-torn countries understand these freedoms must be paid for with more than just taxes.

I was literally shocked after talking to a few incoming freshman about what they wanted to do in the future. They were undeclared majors that could not even list the professions they wanted to go into.

Where are those who understand that being a citizen is more than just a birthright? Where are the countrymen who recognize that their freedoms come with obligations? Where are those who would help their community and come to the defense of the nation? Tell me: Is there a true man or woman among you? I know you must be out there. Stand and be recognized as true citizens.

I have always been a proponent of firearms and have carried them for many years. I have come to realize that a firearm is nothing more than a tool. A firearm is no more to be feared than a hammer. However any tool misused can harm and potentially kill the user or those around them.

Long ago the military recognized the need for peer support. The term “battle buddy” is often used to describe the individual that will make sure that you get out of bed in the morning, remember all your equipment, and show up on time.

The CSC faculty and staff have gone to great lengths to provide quality education for students both in and outside the classroom. Although I graduated from a more costly university, I would dare to say that CSC graduates will be superior to higher-cost colleges upon graduation if they take full advantage of additional resources being offered at CSC.

You can try to deny it, but you really are what you wear. You may believe that we live in a society that isn’t judgmental, but the fact of the matter is you are judged by your appearance.

Look at all the great leaders in our society; they all have one thing in common. They all have a history of failures in their past. While this may seem like a contradiction in logic, the leaders of our society are those that possess the courage to risk failure in order to achieve greatness. Show me a person that has never failed, and I will show you a person that has never accomplished anything significant.

I find it very interesting that most students approach education in terms of only the minimum requirements. If you were to buy a car, you would want the best car for your money, right? But when students pay thousands of dollars in tuition, they tend to ask only about the minimum requirements to pass the course or get a grade. How did society learn to approach education in this way?
