Earlier this month, a CSC student and former Marine asked me if I had heard about the four USMC Snipers who had been filmed urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban insurgents.

Last week, columnist Franklin Annis provided a list of things to avoid when talking to veterans. Since interactions with veterans on campus are becoming more common for many students this semester, he finishes addressing this subject by offering some further suggestions.

With an end of the War in Iraq and a withdrawal date set for operations in Afghanistan, military veterans may see their support dwindle in the future.

The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement seems to be sweeping across the nation. From coast to coast citizens are rallying to demonstrate their discontent with the current policies of the U.S. government. But the people involved need to step back and view these protests for what they really are.

In 2006, Nebraska recognized citizens’ rights to defend themselves by issuing concealed weapon permits. These permits were issued to citizens, 21 years of age or older, who could lawfully purchase firearms, and had attended the required training. The intent of these permits was to provide lawful citizens a means of escaping dangerous and potentially deadly situations.

In the past few weeks, there have been a handful of occasions where I have witnessed or have been told about people disrespecting the American flag. While incidents of disrespect are growing more common in modern society, it is none the less disheartening. If everyone could see the flag as our soldiers do, as a symbol of greatness and not just a piece of cloth, maybe these incidents would be far less common.

For as long as I have been teaching, I have always had students come up to me at the end of the semester trying to find ways not to fail class.
