Women’s basketball opens season
The Chadron State women’s basketball team overpowered the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrocker’s with a final score of 71-65 last Friday in Armstrong.

Twelve of the fourteen CSC players played during the first game of the 2010-2011 season, three of which scored double digits.
Lexi Smidt, sophomore of North Platte, and Kaitlin Petri, senior of Kearney, lead the team with 15 points a piece, while Lindy McDaniel, redshirt freshman of Loveland, Colo., trailed with 10 points and Kada Williams, junior of Green River, Wyo., chipped in with 7 points.
The Eagle’s 59 rebounds, compared to the Hardrocker’s 37, gave Chadron 22 second-chance points. Petri had the game-high of 9 rebounds while Kelsey Scott, junior of Douglas, Wyo., and Jazmyn Webster, freshman of Cheyenne, Wyo., added 8 and 7, respectively.
Despite a setback in the fourth quarter when the Hardrockers took the lead 64-62, the Eagles led the majority of the game.
The Eagles pulled through with help from Sadie Waugh, sophomore of Paxton, who scored six consecutive points, concluding the game 71-65, in CSC’s favor.
The Eagles proved themselves worthy at their first exhibition game of the season.
They are scheduled to play a second exhibition game against Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 in Armstrong Gymnasium.
