Advising Week continues through 4 p.m. today

“Advising Week in the fall was so successful, that is why this semester we dedicated a whole month to it,” Danielle Lecher, START Office adviser, said. Advising Week started February 3 and was all month long. Many students have already thought and planned out their academic future for the next semester, but many still have not.

The purpose of advising week was to allow students to figure out who their adviser is and to start building a relationship with this person. This person will be your go to person from the time you step on campus as a freshman to the time you graduate. This should be your go to person when you need something on campus or have issues in your classes. If you run into academic trouble you can go talk to your adviser and they should be able to help you.

“If you haven’t met with your adviser, there will be advisors that will provide general assistance to help you get registered for your classes,” Lecher said. “We really would like you to meet with your advisor but we really want you to get registered. If you were not able to get registered, we would strongly encourage students to get registered before midterm break.”

This semesters advising week has been moderately successful, but there are still many students who need to get registered. In the week about 100 students successfully got registered for the fall semester.

“We would like students to know who their advisors are,” Senior Director of Student Services Sherry Douglas said.  “If a student does not know who their advisor is, the START Office would like to know as soon as possible so we can find the right adviser for you.”

“We send out reminders to your Eaglemail so be sure to check your Eaglemail daily,” Lecher said. It is important to get registered for your classes as soon as possible, because soon the incoming freshman will begin to get registered and you may not be able to get into the classes you want. The earlier you register the more likely you will get the classes you want. If you do not get signed up for classes within the week do not panic, you can still sign up for classes for the rest of the semester, but the sooner then better.

“If this Advising Week is a success it will absolutely thrill me,” Douglas said.

General advisers will be in the Gold Roomfrom 10 a.m.-2 p.m., today for any students who have not registered for classes yet. If you wish to register next week the start office will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
