Women finish in fourth, men in second at RMAC Indoor Championships
The Chadron State College men’s track and field team finished second in the team standings at the RMAC Championships hosted by Adams State University, Alamosa, Colo., this past weekend.
Karl McFarlane, senior of Montego Bay, Jamaica, won the 60-meter high hurdles, running it in 7.89 seconds. With this time, he has broken his previous school record and tied the conference record. This time also moved him into third for national standings. McFarlane also placed second in the triple jump going 46-7 1/2.
In addition, CSC’s Chris Cutcher, freshman of Colorado Springs, was second to McFarlane in the hurdles with a time of 8.20 seconds. Cutcher also was third in the long jump on Friday’s openers.

Another event winner Saturday for the Eagles was Hunter Dittbenner, junior of Mitchell, who came from behind to beat Western State’s Simon Hayes, freshman of Colorado Springs, by 11 points. Dittbenner trailed Hayes by 172 points after four of the seven events on Friday, but Dittbenner finished the grueling seven-event competition with a career-best 4,788 points. He also won the decathlon at last year’s RMAC Outdoor Championship. Greg Rodriguez, junior of Del Rio, Texas, and Shelby Bozner, sophmore of Rock Springs, Wyo., finished third and fourth in this year’s heptathlon.
Two Eagles were the runners-up in the men’s dashes Saturday. Dean Francis, senior of Montego Bay, Jamaica, earned the silver medal in the 60-meters in 6.80 seconds, and Brandon Segelke, senior of Sidney, was second in the 200 in 22.18.
Charith Kapukotuwa, senior of Chilaw, Sri Lanka, was runner-up in the shot put at 56-2. He also took second in the 35-pound weight throw on Friday with a mark of 58-6 1/2.

The CSC women finished fourth among the 10 teams while scoring 77 points for the second year in a row. Saturday’s leaders included Ashley Riesen, senior of Chadron, who took second in the mile in 5:11.91, Riesen was the only non-Adams State entry to place among the top six in the mile.
One of CSC’s highlights Friday was the 19-6 3/4 long jump by Stachia Reuswaat, freshman of Black Hawk, S.D., to earn the silver medal. Her mark is the second best in D-II this winter. Only New Mexico Highlands’ Shanice McPherson, freshman of Manchester, Jamaica, who won the RMAC long jump Friday, has a better mark.
Alyssa Norton, senior of Rushville, was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 46-1 1/2 after winning the weight throw Friday. Norton ranks sixth nationally in the shot put. CSC’s Mel Herl, sophomore of Eaton, Colo., was fourth in the shot put Saturday after taking fifth in the weight throw the previous day.
Kelsy Wood, freshman of Hemmingford, placed fifth in the pentathlon on Friday and was third in the high hurdles Saturday, with a time of 9.04 seconds.
Adams State won both team championships. The CSC men’s total of 135 points is the second highest ever at the conference meet, exceeded only by last year’s 151, which they also were the runners-up in the team standings.
