Eagle track & field earns top-three finishes in Colorado
Five members of the Chadron State track and field team earned top-three finishes at the Kit Mayer Invitational in Golden, Colorado.
The Eagles were scheduled to appear at the Bauer Invitational in Rapid City, South Dakota, but the meet was canceled due to inclement weather.
The team was able to enter the Kit Mayer Invitational to provide the athletes additional opportunities to qualify for the upcoming RMAC championships.
The Eagles showed their depth in the throwing events with seven top-five performances. Jesse Bleidt, senior of Lewellen, placed second in both the discus and hammer throw with performances of 153 feet, 3 inches and 179 feet, 3 inches respectively.
Blake Jacobs, senior of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, earned another second-place finish for the Eagles in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, ¾ inch. Jacobs placed fourth in the hammer throw.
Ashton Hallsted, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, showed off her skills by placing third in the discus, third in the hammer throw, and fifth in the shot put.
Ashlyn Hanson, senior of Seward, placed second in the hammer throw and fifth in the discus with throws of 177 feet, 9 inches and 130 feet, 10 inches.
On the track, the Eagles earned two top-five finishes. Cassie Johnson, senior of Rock Springs, Wyoming, placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.54 seconds.
In the 110-meter high hurdles Justin Leman, junior of Douglas, Wyoming, placed fourth in 15.11 seconds.
The Eagles are back in action April 19 and April 20 at the Brian Clay Invitational in Azuza, California.
The meet features strong competition including several of Division I programs. The meet will be the athlete’s last opportunity to qualify for the RMAC Championships that will be held April 26 through April 28 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
