By BreAnne Benson

The CSC men’s wrestling team performed well in Colorado, on Nov. 19, pulling away with a pair of dual wins against Northwest College of Powell, Wyoming and Northeastern Junior College of Sterling, Colorado.

Chadron won 31-18 against Northwest College and 46-6 against Northeastern Junior College.

The Eagles traveled back to Kearney for the Younes Hospitality Open at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds where eight CSC men placed.

“It was a challenging week for the guys having to make weight three times in one week and compete on three separate dates,” CSC Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Brett Hunter, “but the guys did an outstanding job and I’m extremely proud.”.

In Kearney, the elite brackets were comprised of primarily varsity wrestlers. Quentrevion Campbell, a junior of Tifton, Georgia beat the number one ranked wrestler in the nation, Reece Barnhardt, of University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota in a 7-3 bout. Campbell finished second in the elite 133-pound bracket.

Quade Smith, a sophomore of Layton, Utah, beat Patrick Allis 4-0, who is a returning two-time All-American and nationally ranked wrestler for Western Colorado University in Gunninson, Colorado. Smith finished third in the elite 125-pound bracket.

Ethan Leake, a junior of Clovis, California, beat the number seven ranked wrestler in the nation Grayson DiBlasi, a Colorado School of Mines fighter, 6-4. Leake placed third in the elite 141-pound bracket.

Mostly freshman and junior varsity men competed in the amateur brackets.

Five CSC men placed within the amateurs.

Keegan Galhausen, freshman of Pinedale, Wyoming, placed second in the 184-pound bracket, Hunter Gilmore, freshman of Arlington, placed third in the 141-pound bracket, Logan Berger, freshman of Hartsville, South Carolina, placed third in the 165-pound bracket, and Hayden Burr, freshman of Fleming, Colorado, placed fifth in the 184-pound bracket.

The Eagles will take the mat again at home, against the Gators of San Francisco State, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, in the Chicoine Center.
