Coming soon: the death of Hollywood

Hollywood is dying but maybe that’s OK.

Let’s start with the physical issues. To make a single DVD so much carbon dioxide is made that it would take a tree eight years to get rid of it according to dreadcentral.com. And around 5.5 million things like CDs or DVDs go to the dump every year.

But it’s OK, they’re dying anyways with the rise of streaming services. Except that’s not exactly true, they’re still mass produced for the extras to be thrown away.

But now we have the new issues with streaming services.

Netflix is dying, which is it’s own fault. It consistently raises prices and have recently started policies that sound, frankly ridiculous.

Which make me have questions like: How are you going to offer plans with multiple profiles and then say you can’t share accounts unless you’re in the same house?

That one, sounds so dumb, and two, how are you planning on cracking down on that? People travel, they stay with friends, they login at hotels or maybe they’re a kid who is at their other parent’s house for the weekend.

And the more they raise their prices the more people are going to keep sharing to split costs. Besides how are you going to separate people from their parents’ costs before the government even decides to, at least kids get until age 25 to get kicked off their parent’s things. But it’s not even as important as things like insurance either.

The people that are paying should be allowed to choose who streams.

Other streaming services seem to have a healthy heartbeat and might keep going strong. Services like Disney or Hulu offer packages that bundle multiple services making it more affordable.

So, while other services hike prices they attract more people with their bundles.

The issue that could be killing these services and Hollywood eventually, is that there seems to be no more new ideas.

It seems like anymore everything is either a sequel, a remake, or a book adaptation. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Marvel movies, and some of the series coming out now are really good.

But I think the sheer amount of Fast and Furious movies and their spin-offs became a little unnecessary at a point. But when you’re out of ideas you pull from what works. Which is what they’ve been doing.

How many Minion movies will come out?

Or how many more “John Wick”, “Jurassic Park”, or Marvel movies will be released?

Not that these movies are necessarily bad thing but at some point, we have to move past them.

They are beloved characters, but you can only make them do so many things before they’re repeating themselves.

Since movies have been slowly dying, T.V. shows have been gaining in popularity again. Which has been giving us some really great series, but then those are still limited to whatever streaming service they’re being premiered on.

Basically movies and T.V. shows have either become inaccessible or a repeat of history. How many old marvel movies and T.V. shows are we going to have to watch to catch up at if you miss a movie at this point?

Sequels are good, but Hollywood has went a little too far. If they want to keep the public’s attention they’ll have to come up with something new. No matter how hard that might be.
