Read More‘Science Abroad’ series highlights experiences of faculty, students
Faculty and students of the Chadron State College Physical and Life Sciences Department will present personal accounts of their experiences in science and providing medical aid in other countries during the new “Science Abroad” series.
Ann Buchmann, associate professor of physical and life sciences, will open the series next Thursday with a presentation about her experiences in Tanzania entitled “Stealth, Speed, and Support: Strategies of Predators and Prey in East Africa.” It will be 5 p.m. in Math and Science Building room 144.
Future talks will feature students Jacob Zitterkopf of Scottsbluff and Ashley Maxon of Laurel, who will speak about their summer experiences in working in health care in Argentina.

Chadron State College’s Dorset Graves Lecture Series is set to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Reta E. King Library room 108.
Gary White, dean of business, entrepreneurship, applied and mathematical sciences and sciences, will kick off the biweekly series with a lecture titled “Cultural Experiences Building International Programs.”
Shawn Hartman, assistant director of the library, said, “The series provides a way to highlight all the intelligent people on campus and the rest of the community.”
The series began in fall 2006 and is named in honor of Dorset Graves, professor emeritus. Graves was a full-time faculty member at CSC for 32 years before retiring in 1990.
The lectures are free and open to the public and feature light refreshments. For more information contact Hartman at 432-6271.

Eloisa Oporto Leiva, graduate student of Argentina, will be instructing a conversational Spanish class this semester.
The course counts toward three general education credits and still has 20 open seats.
The class takes place from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Burkhiser 202. Students can enroll at the Student Center on MyCSC by searching for “world languages.”

G.I. Jobs magazine designated Chadron State College as “Military Friendly” for 2011.
The rank places CSC in the top 15 percent of schools nationwide in serving U.S. military and veterans.
“It’s a really cool deal for us,” Randy Rhine, vice president for enrollment management and student services and college relations, said.
CSC recently launched a new program aiming to increase the number of veterans and current members of the military in CSC programs.
Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jon P. Hansen, who was hired to lead the initiative, said CSC has a long history with the military and veterans, and recognizes the unique challenges and benefits of serving that sector of the population.
